Trusting and joy through grief

The joy I felt a few days ago was quickly replaced with sorrow when I received some sad news about the death of someone who has had a huge impact on my life and on my son’s life. I questioned my experiment about finding joy because I myself have not been feeling like rejoicing. Then I was reminded of other times in my life when I felt sorrow and how the sorrow I experienced at that time has faded and been replaced with more hope and deeper trust in the Lord. When my parents both passed away within five months of each other, I went through a period of grieving that I may never completely overcome. However, I have not lost hope. Today I have not felt a lot of happiness but I am learning that happiness and joy are completely different things. Today I am sad, today I grieve today I question and do not fully understand but as I write this, I know "this to shall pass."

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. ROMANS 8:28

This verse talks about “good” This is often interpreted to mean “pleasant” or “enjoyable” But some things that are good for us involve pain. Consider the parent who disciplines a child or the doctor who must apply a painful treatment to heal a wound. The parent and doctor know why they are “hurting” the child and patient, even though the one being affected may not understand. God knows everything, including the future, and he has a purpose for our life. We need to submit to God and trust that what we are experiencing will be used for good. HOLY BIBLE NEW LIVING TRANSLATION
